North Captiva is a boating island by necessity and a fishing island by reputation. Whether you bring your own boat, rent one for a day, or never get further than the beach, most of what there is to do here happens on or beside the water.
Renting a boat or watercraft
You can rent through the North Captiva Island Club, or through Boats and Fun, based on the island near Mango's - boats, kayaks, paddle boards and golf carts. Boats and Fun: boatsandfun.com/north-captiva, 1-800-991-3259. The Island Club: 239-283-1001.
If you are bringing your own boat, marina slips are available through the club. Mention it when you inquire and we will point you to the right dock and the current arrangements.
Fishing
Deep-sea, bay and surf fishing are all within reach, and charters and tackle rental are available on the island. The passes at either end of the island and the flats on the bay side are the local favorites, which is where to start if you are fishing here for the first time.
Kayaks and paddling
The bay side is mangrove water: calm, sheltered, and the best chance you will get of seeing the island's wildlife up close. Kayaking and canoeing through the mangroves is the quietest few hours available on North Captiva.
Snorkeling and water sports
Snorkeling, scuba and water sports run out of the Island Club. The Gulf is a five-minute walk from Dream Catcher, so the water is never the hard part of the plan.
Shelling and beach days
Beach essentials are provided at the house. The Gulf-side beach is a short cart ride away, and the shelling here rivals anywhere in Southwest Florida - which, for this stretch of coast, is saying something.
What is waiting back at the house
Not every day has to involve a boat. Dream Catcher has a private heated pool, with a new heater and pump installed in 2025, plus a hot tub, a BBQ grill, a hammock, ping-pong under the house and porches on more than one level.
Your Island Club membership
Staying at Dream Catcher includes membership at the North Captiva Island Club for the length of your stay, and that is what opens up most of this: marina slips, boat rentals and fishing charters, water sports and day passes, the club's large heated pool, and the restaurants.
Club hours and offerings change seasonally, so it is worth a call to confirm what is running for your dates: 239-283-1001.
